IOP

The Institute Of Physics (IoP), Bhubaneswar

The Institute of Physics established in 1972 to promote fundamental and applied research in all branches of physics and allied disciplines, to establish fruitful contacts with universities and academic bodies and to undertake training of high level manpower in science and technology of national importance.

The Institute Promotes research in several branches of pure and applied physics. The Institute carries out the research programmes in the frontline areas of high-energy physics, condensed matter, atomic and nuclear physics. The Institute has acquired a 3MV tandem pelletron accelerator as one of the major experimental facilities in the campus. In the high energy and particle physics research, the institute has made fundamental contributions in field theories in low dimensions, phase transitions in early universe, cosmology, the Planck scale phenomena, string theory and high energy phenomenology etc. The experimental research activities at Institute of Physics are centered mainly around a 3 MV Pelletron Accelerator located in the Ion Beam Laboratory (IBL), The accelerator provides low to medium energy ion beams starting from protons and alphas to heavy ions.
