TMC is an autonomous grant-in-aid institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) is a new state-of-the-art R & D satellite of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). It has the mandate to function as a national center for treatment, education and research in cancer.

ACTREC comprises of two arms – a basic research arm constituted by the erstwhile Cancer Research Institute (CRI) and a Clinical Research Centre (CRC).

The ACTREC has been actively involved in basic research and some translational research related to Cancer. It carry out mission-oriented research and development on cancers prevalent in the Indian sub-continent, and where there are internationally competitive opportunities, uses state-of-the-art technology on partnership with the TATA Memorial Hospital.
